Wesley Boyd Faces Child Abuse Charges Following Fishing Incident |
A Palm Bay resident, Wesley Boyd, has been arrested on charges of child abuse after allegedly assaulting a young boy who was fishing near his property.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on November 24, when officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving a juvenile. Witnesses stated that the boy was fishing on an embankment behind Boyd's residence when the 46-year-old confronted him. Boyd reportedly approached the child, demanded he leave, and as the boy attempted to comply, Boyd allegedly grabbed him from behind, struck his knee, causing him to fall, and threw his fishing rod into the water.
Multiple juvenile witnesses corroborated the victim's account, indicating that the boy was not on Boyd's property at the time of the incident. Boyd, however, claimed that after instructing the boy to leave, the child moved a few feet away and continued fishing. Boyd admitted to taking the fishing pole and throwing it into the lake, asserting that the boy slipped and fell during the altercation.
Following the investigation, authorities determined Boyd to be the primary aggressor. He was arrested and charged with child abuse without great bodily harm. At his initial court appearance, Boyd was ordered to have no contact with the victim and was granted bond, which has since been posted.
This incident has raised concerns within the Palm Bay community regarding the safety of public spaces and the behavior of residents towards minors engaging in recreational activities. Local authorities are urging residents to report any similar incidents to ensure the safety and well-being of all community members. |
