Veterans Memorial Park Nears Completion in Grant-Valkaria |
Community Efforts Bring Tribute to Veterans to Fruition |
The Grant-Valkaria Community Association (GVCA) is on the verge of completing the Veterans Memorial Park, a heartfelt tribute to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Located adjacent to the Grant-Valkaria Town Hall at 1449 Valkaria Road, the 4,900-square-foot park is set to feature life-sized bronze statues of a male and female soldier, a military dog, a bald eagle, and a battlefield cross, each symbolizing the valor and sacrifice of service members.
In addition to these statues, the park will include an educational kiosk providing information on each military branch, including the Space Force. Visitors can scan QR codes to delve deeper into the history and significance of each branch.
To further honor veterans, the GVCA is offering personalized engraved bricks for $100 each, with an option to add an emblem for an additional $25. These bricks will be prominently displayed on vertical monuments, ensuring that the names and service details of veterans are elevated and respected.
The community's support has been overwhelming, with numerous donations and in-kind contributions reducing the project's initial budget from $300,000 to an estimated $210,000. The GVCA aims to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Memorial Day weekend, marking the park's official opening.
For those interested in purchasing a brick or contributing to the park's completion, forms are available at the Town Hall, open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by contacting the GVCA directly. |
